Saturday 21st December 2024 will see the return of HYPEFAM.global’s community live streaming festival!

After the roaring success that was the first ever 12 Streams of Christmas in 2023, we’re proud to announce that we are once again hosting a 12 Streams of Christmas this year, to get the 2024 festive season kicked off in true HYPEFAM style!

Featuring a community voted lineup of DJs from the HYPEFAM community, back-to-back for a full 12 hours! Join us as we get ready for the holiday season with non-stop bangers to kickstart your Christmas celebrations!

The Timeline

Here’s a basic overview of the timeline for this year’s event!

1 November 2024 • Submissions Open

From the 1 November, you’ll be able to submit your demo videos alongside some basic information about your online presence to enter into the event. The HYPEFAM.global team will be in touch shortly after to give you some more information about the event, specific to streamers. For example:

  • We’ll ask you to sign a Content Release Agreement, giving us permission to broadcast your content on our channel – we need you to sign this in order for you to feature on the event.
  • Confirming the details you’ve given to us, before we display it during voting on the website.
  • Ask you for any additional information, such as proof of age if we believe you’re Under 18 at the time of application.

17 November 2024 • Submissions Close

After the 17 November, no further submissions will be accepted. The deadline for submissions will be at 23:59 GMT (UK time) and you’ll need to have completed the form by this time in order to appear on the voting panel for the HYPEFAM.

18-19 November 2024 • Voting Opens

If possible, we’ll open voting immediately after the submissions window closes. However, if we get a surge of submissions last-minute – like we did last year, we’ll take a day to get all of them ready before we open the voting period. As always, we’ll send a notification out on the James Hype Discord when voting is ready to go!

When the voting window opens, all members of the James Hype Discord server will be able to login to the HYPEFAM.global website and vote for their favourites. Each user gets 12 votes, and you can only vote for each submission once. Self-votes will not be counted, but will count against your final vote quota.

30 November 2024 • Voting Closes

On the 30 November, voting will close and the lineup for the event will be revealed! After this date, the team will be working hard in the background to get all streamers setup and ready to go for the event on the 21st!

If you didn’t get voted in at this point, please don’t disregard your submissions. Sometimes, unfortunately voted streamers are unable to perform on the day for a verity of reasons, be it technical difficulties or for personal reasons. If a DJ on the lineup cannot make the final event, we’ll ask to a runner-up to take their place!

Please note that we won’t reveal any vote count data for those who did not make the lineup.

1 December – 16 December • Technical Testing

Throughout this period, the team will book an appointment with each streamer individually. We’ll use this time to get to know you, test your setup, answer any questions you might have – and train you on the internal systems we use to make the stream possible! Note that we’ll need to meet with each streamer individually, and we can’t complete this in group sessions.

We’re flexible with appointments, and we’ll send you an email asking for when you’re available – and will co-ordinate a time from there!

16-20 December • Internal Preperations

The team may seem a little quiet throughout this time – but rest assured, we’re working hard to prepare for the event internally. Everything we need to setup and get running for the stream to work will be prepared throughout this time, so we appreciate your patience!

21 December • Showtime!

The stream will go live a couple of hours before the event is due to start for some pre-roll! We’ll be playing some cool music we find within the community in the run-up to the event. Come and hang out with the team as we get ready to hit the big START button and celebrate the festive season in true HYPEFAM style.

Want to feature on the stream?

Applications have now closed for this year’s event, but fear not – you can always play your part in the event by voting you favourite submissions to help build the lineup for this year.

Be sure to look out for information on next year’s event, later in the year.

#whodoesthis

A quick note from HYPEFAM.global Team:

When recording your demo set (and playing live on the day) – please refrain from playing exclusively STEREOHYPE/James Hype/Christmas tracks. We understand that everybody would like to show their appreciation for the movement, however if everybody plays non-stop STEROHYPE/James Hype/Christmas music, the event will become extremely repetitive. Please consider the content of your demo set/final set! Embrace the festivities, but keep the STEREOHYPE bangers and the Christmas “classics” to a minimum, please. Oh – and do not play Drugs from Amsterdam in your set. The team will certainly cry. 😢

Furthermore, we’d like to clarify the requirements for sourcing music for the stream. Only content obtained legimitately that you have legal right to play can be used as part of your submission/set on the day. You cannot utilise YouTube rips or otherwise illegitimately obtained content in your demo or full set. Doing so will result in your application being declined, or your stream being pulled offline on the day.

When you apply, you’ll receive an email with a Content Release Agreement. This should be signed and returned to admin@hypefam.global on the same day to avoid delays in processing your application.

Qualifying Criteria

  • You must be a current, and active member of the James Hype Discord server.
  • Persons under the age of 18 cannot appear in your stream at any time. With this in mind, regrettably, we're unable to accept applications from DJs who are not yet 18 years or older. If we have reason to suspect you are under the age of 18, your application will be declined.
  • All DJs are to begin and finish their sets promptly at the allocated time. DJs are expected to be within the online 'Green Room' 20 minutes before their set is due to begin, for AV checks. We will terminate your connection to the streaming server if you overrun by a significant amount.
  • In addition to this, please plan an additional 20 minutes of content in the event that the DJ following your set experiences technical issues, or difficulties connecting to the streaming server.
  • Whilst we accept that not everybody will wish to disclose their identity, we require at least one video feed from every DJ. This can be of your decks if you do not wish to show your face.
  • Ensure the audio from your decks is coming from a line feed rather than a Microphone. We recommend this basic digital audio interface if you don't know what this means. Note: If you're using a controller, you can get PC line audio out without a unit like this using Rekordbox.
  • If you wish to utilise pyrotechnics or any specific on-screen effects that may trigger somebody with a photosensitive medical condition and/or epilepsy, you must inform the production team beforehand, so we can place additional warnings before your set.
  • You are required to have a good-standing Twitch account as well as a clean enforcement history within the James Hype Discord server.
  • Old enforcement activity upon your account (over 12 months old) will be overlooked during this process.
  • You are required to have a stable internet connection with enough bandwidth to transmit at least a 720p video, ideally 1080p. You'll need at least 4.5mbps upload for 720p, and upwards of 10mbps for a 1080p stream. We'll get both resolutions tested with you as part of your technical testing.
  • The minimum resolution for your stream should be 720p, and no more than 1440p, in the interest of stream stability. It would be best if you stream with a minimum of 5120kbps, ideally ~6144-7168kbps.
  • Only content obtained legitimately that you are legally entitled to play may be played during this event. Any attempt to play unauthorised or unreleased media will result in your stream being terminated by the production team.
  • The production crew will alter the appearance of your stream, applying overlays and similar on-screen visualisers. You should broadcast only a plain video feed, we'll deal with the annotation or blurring required.

Technical Requirements

The following technical requirements are in place to assist in ensuring that the entire production runs smoothly, and each DJs stream looks somewhat similar in terms of quality. With this in mind, unfortunately these are non-negotiable. If you cannot meet the following technical requirements, you’ll still be allowed to apply, but your application will be withdrawn during the technical testing sessions we run individually with streamers, post-voting.

Internet Connectivity

You’ll need a strong, reliable internet connection with minimal dropouts (ideally none) that is capable of maintaining a persistent upload speed of approximately 10-15mbps (ideally higher). You’ll need to stream in a minimum of 5120kbps (5mbps) so ensure that your internet connection can facilitate this, keeping in mind background usage of your connection from other users of your network.

Software Packages

OBS: You’ll need to download and install OBS Studio in order to connect to our RTMP streaming service. If you have a standalone streaming unit, you can also use this so long as it supports RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) streaming.

Ammedia GoSTREAM Control: More details will be made available closer to the time, but you’ll also need to make an account with Ammedia GoSTREAM to access our stream management service, provided by our partners at Ammedia Digital. We’ll use this to communicate with streamers on the day, and to provide additional information about your stream whilst you’re live. Think of this service as a Production Management tool, allowing communication and signals between the crew and the talent!

Technical Standards

You’ll need to be able to meet the following requirements regarding the quality of your input to the production. We’ve tried our hardest to balance these between maintaining a high quality production with making participating in the event as accessible as possible.

  • You must stream audio using a direct line feed from your decks. Capturing audio via a microphone/speaker combination will not be acceptable.
  • You must have a consistent video feed throughout the duration of your set. We understand that technical hitches do happen, particularly during a large event such as this one, however we require a consistent video feed throughout testing.
  • You must be available for a technical testing session in the run up to the event, so we can brief you on the streamer’s side of a production, ensure you are able to connect to the streaming service and successfully broadcast music, as well as to train you to use the software packages above.

Approved Demo Hosting Services

You must host your demo, with full audio and video, on one of the following services:

  • YouTube
  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox (video must be embed-able)
